Next club meeting: August 7th, at the shop
We're skipping the July meeting, as it's a holiday
weekend.
Many thanks to Cecil McLester, a
founding member of our club who spoke at the June meeting. He's
now the winemaker at Antelope Valley Winery, and one of the first of us
to go "pro". While he regaled us with tales of this club's
beginnings we were treated to a generous variety of his wines.
Thanks also to Allen Quinton, assistant winemaker & wine club and sales
mgr., and to Kyle Arnote, assistant lab manager.
What another great wine & cheese tasting at Stu & Joan
Lenoff's! And Joe Queen, as always, thanks for your exotic
expertise in the selection of wines that were so perfectly matched.

Special thanks and appreciation to club member
and former president Andy Coradeschi
A month or so ago Andy discovered that it
is technically illegal to hold home wine competitions because home wines are
not supposed to leave the premises. For four decades even State
County Fairs have been operating under the radar
unknowingly. Andy took on the task of contacting the right
insiders in Sacramento and within days of his efforts a proposed law was
drafted which became AB 607 legalizing home wine competitions.
This proposed bill was approved by the
State Assembly Appropriations Committee unanimously May 22nd, and a week
later both the State Assembly and Senate passed it unanimously, 76-0 and
40-0.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed it
into law on June 6th, 2008. Talk about getting things done!
Andy Coradeschi, what an amazing effort
and thanks on behalf of all California home wine makers.
